Recently, there has been an increase in fake Facebook pages using the names of major companies in Kosovo to damage their reputation and deceive citizens. The goal of these individuals is to build an audience through fraud. To raise awareness and help citizens avoid falling prey to these scams, we have outlined the steps to identify fake accounts.
One example is a page mimicking Neptun Kosova, which published a post claiming to give away 3x iPhone 11 Pro, 2x HP Pavilion Laptops, and 1x Samsung Refrigerator. All you had to do was "like" the comment and share the post. You may encounter similar fraudulent posts frequently.
How to identify fake pages:
Posts over the years: Check the history of the page; fake pages often have very little history.
Verified Badge: Check if the business has a verified blue checkmark.
Number of Likes: Official pages usually have a significantly higher number of followers.
Creation Date: Fake pages are often created very recently.
Official Website: Check the company's official website to see if the promotion is mentioned there.
How to report a fake page:
To build a safer cyber environment, please report suspicious pages:
Go to the profile of the fake page.
Click the three dots (...) on the top right and select Find Support or Report Page.
Click Scams and Fake Pages.
Choose the option that best describes the fake page.
Click Send.
