What is SEO? – SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Some of the search engines are Google, Bing, Yahoo etc. We use these search engines in our daily lives to find the information we need online. Most of us use Google as their homepage, and 99.9% of us use it regularly. But has it ever come to your mind how Google works, how Google searches those websites and helps us find the answer we’re looking for?
Search engines work this way: they have spiders that download and crawl all the content on the web and index it. Then they use algorithms to decide which websites have quality and valuable content for users and which ones do not. All search engines have a secret algorithm, consisting of many factors (that of Google 200+) that are taken into account before ranking websites for the term you are looking for. That algorithm is designed in such a way, that to the user who is looking for something to bring a result as relevant as possible. These algorithms are continuously modified with the aim of perfecting it.
But where does SEO stand here?
As I said earlier SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization which means a SEO specialist has the task of optimizing a particular page so that it will rank higher in the search results. A SEO specialist has long been dealing with and studying Googles algorithm (we’re not saying search engines because Google is the absolute dominant in this field and with “search engine”, we always mean Google) and has come to understand what are the factors affecting a search engine so a page can rank higher, because always everyones target is the first place for relevant terms with their site.
Let’s say this: Google’s algorithm is taken as a recipe while factors that are considered when ranking a page are taken as components of that recipe. This recipe brings success that in our case is ranking first for relevant terms of our site.
Now a SEO specialist has the duty to know as many ingredients as possible in that recipe, and to mix it in the right way to succeed. If the ingredients are right, Google will reward the site by ranking it first.
What can SEO do for my site?
SEO is a form of online marketing that brings free (no cost) visitors to your site. Most businesses today have websites. But why would you need a website if no one is visiting it! Normally besides SEO you have other methods to increase your site visits such as advertising on other sites etc. but the problem is that most of them are paid and are short term strategies because you always have to stay paying ads for your site ,otherwise at the moment you stop advertising the visits will also stop (or at least they will be drastically reduced).
